if imagination is better than knowledge, then why does it get us into so much trouble? do we really need to choose? or is it far wiser, to merely enhance our knowledge, with some imagination..thus not being stagnant in our thoughts? remember, this is the same guy who didn't get the unified field theory !!!

Re: imagination or knowledge?
Mon, February 20, 2006 - 8:29 AMI look at imagination as a kind of starting point, while knowledge is the system by which imaginery concepts are made real (at least those imaginary concepts that can be made real). So if imagination is more important than knowledge, it's only slightly more important (I guess).

Re: imagination or knowledge?
Tue, February 21, 2006 - 12:32 PMImagination is about transforming "all that is not" processed into "all that is" in ones receiving conscious mind while knowledge is drawing from "all that is" already present in ones mind. The "newness" factor makes imagination seem more appealing on an emotional plane, however the "functionality" factor makes knowledge appear more practical to the logical mind.

all that is not...in a knot?
Tue, February 21, 2006 - 12:42 PMwell this is a convoluted word processing exercise...what we call the imagination, is merely the process by which new synaptical connections are made between previously archived images...once established and accepted as being valid...they become knowledge!! that's why E was considered a genius...his brain had more folds on the surface than most..it may have enabled him to create synaptical connections more easily, because they were closer ! -
-
Explained a bit further...
Tue, February 21, 2006 - 1:49 PMThe receiver, our crown chakra, takes in "all that is not" a part of our awareness in the now (superconsciousness) and the awakener, our third eye (ajna) translates it into "all that is" and instills it in our subconscious awareness. When our active mind accesses a thought from the subconscious mind we become conscious of the thought. If it is a newly created construct, as aforementioned "new synaptical connections are made between previously archived images", we call it imagination. If it is plain memory recall, we call it knowledge, as aforesaid: "established and accepted as being valid", knowing based upon all prior recognized thoughts up until the moment we call "now". -

the awakened state
Thu, February 23, 2006 - 12:35 PMseems like a lot of the "stuff" you wrote (possibly taken from the vedas?) is not yours..what i find most interesting is the "sense of knowing " that manifests from the "subconscious" mind. Like bubbles of consciousness drifting upwards through the layers of awareness, forming images and solidifying into knowledge. Direct, no middleware of imagination. Pure consciousness !! what do you know about that? -
-
Pure consciousness
Fri, February 24, 2006 - 10:00 AMawareness ebraces knowing the ever elusive moment called now. pure, absolute, unified, singular consciousness that emanates in (the void) 0-D which then observes itself in 1-D (omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, omnibenevolent, a non visible realm to 3-D), thereafter replicates itself in 2-D (creative force, a partially visible realm to 3-D), and then constructs a 3-D world (polarities of opposites) before reuniting in 4-D ( a unified, ordered realm ,non visible to 3-D realm, however experientially accessible with aids to sensory mechanisms) and either returning to source also known as 1-D or ascending into higher dimensionalities. the circular journeying of progressive dimensionality contained in a repeating cyclic pattern of birth, death and rebirth etc.; the wheel of existence/life; and balance & proportion of expansion and contraction. the alternate/parallel universes are all linked together in this dynamic/static/balanced/unbalanced/separated/shared/space/time continuum. reincarnation is an endless loop. ascension is a progression. -

how Pure a consciousness?
Fri, February 24, 2006 - 10:29 AMi understand what you are saying...however without prior knowledge and experience your dialogue would seem more like "pure bulls**t " , than pure consciousness !! may i ask what the source of your info is? or is this your own construct ? thanks for your time...this has been quite interesting...although it may appear simple to you, your presentation is a bit convoluted and complex...try expressing it as a poem...preferably haiku...that will give you an exercise in "pure consciousness" LOL -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: how Pure a consciousness?
Sun, February 26, 2006 - 9:49 AMthanks for your opinion. when compelled to write at length on this topic i shall. haiku is an interesting idea. what you got? -

how "Pure " a consciousness? what i got?
Sun, February 26, 2006 - 11:12 AMahhh...now it becomes the old game of "you show me yours and i'll show you mine"...huh? LOL....Actually first time that i'd even thought of such a thing...let alone if it was possible !! i'll get back to you on it...been kinda busy fighting gravity !! LOL -

Re: how "Pure " a consciousness? what i got?
Mon, February 27, 2006 - 6:04 PMwell, obviously, you have ideas coming from somewhere, however your laughter is getting a bit redundant ;-) -

redundant laughter
Thu, March 2, 2006 - 7:19 AMyup...it's almost as persistent as your illusion of superiority !! not sure if you've been enlightened ..or just think you are ! however i find posturing, humorously entertaining...it's a bit like assuming if you pose dressed like ghandi, you will then automatically receive all his accolades. To one with knowledge, this would seem like a child's fantasy charade...funny at first, but end up as a boring monolog seeking audiences. Perfection is not a destination after all...for it requires not only constant updates and readjustments...but the humility to accept you have a lot to learn!

humble opinion? or shot-in-the -dark?
Tue, February 21, 2006 - 12:34 PMactually this is a tough question because it's all relative (or was that relativity?) when trying to understand a new subject we imagine (or visualize) some construct...but you cannot go from ignorance to knowledge, without some transition...that's where imagination comes in and where E was right...i was just fishin' to see who'd bite !!! we need to comprehend his statements from his perspective ...not ours !! it's easier when you're a genius like him..but it's worth the effort...actually i think tesla was smarter !!

Re: imagination or knowledge?
Thu, March 2, 2006 - 11:16 AMwhat he say, was like that.......
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”
to take the 1-st sentence only.....
is an mistake -

imagination or knowledge? both illusions?
Fri, March 3, 2006 - 5:48 AMahhh well done grasshopper....or was that well done, grasshopper? for in some societies a roasted grasshopper is a delicacy ! hence the real meat (oops..tofu for the vegans) of the discussion... Defining what is real or illusion ! The mind is almost magical in it's ability to form images from fragments of information. Even the words we speak (or write) are but symbolic representations to be interpreted. The pictures we paint in the mind of others, by using colorful language, or humorous images, evoke predicated results. Language is the tool or vehicle to communicate our "knowledge" or "Imagination". So for one what may be knowledge, can only be imagined by someone without the experience to understand. The semantics involved may lead to argument, or at least discussion...however understanding transcends the differences...So neither imagination, nor knowledge are important because they are subjective..."understanding" is the root of all wisdom, and therefore stands true! -

Re: imagination or knowledge? both illusions?
Sat, March 4, 2006 - 7:50 AMI have been noticing more and more that there is knowing and something like pre-knowing. A little voice or vibration that comes to me at times but I have other things I am focusing on. In due time, this stuff comes to me. I also notice paradoxical thought. Before, I used to really struggle until I would understand. As soon as I did, the knowing was gone. Something contradicted it.
Also while meditating, I notice my mind is racing. The image of a treadmill comes close although not altogether. After about 10 or 15 minutes, things start slowing down in a sense. Taking a breath and following it isn't so difficult. Then it can go away like that.
I was hoping to express that to someone. -

Sat, March 4, 2006 - 3:38 PM"the teller & the doer"
read: Gallwey's '"The Inner Game of Tennis"
It explains in an interesting way how two aspects of mind operate. -

Re: imagination or knowledge? both illusions?
Mon, March 6, 2006 - 3:32 AMI think I have heard about this book, maybe on this site. Another good one is Zen of golf. I had another image while meditating. It felt a little different from the treadmill image. I felt my mind racing. As I tried to follow my breath, I was unable to do so very well as long as my mind continued to race. In the beginning, I easily was distracted. Towards the end, that treamill like image was slowing down and almost stopped. Then as I was to the side, following my breath became much easier. Pretty cool. -

tennis anyone?
Tue, March 7, 2006 - 7:25 AMWow what a raquet ( or was that racket?) the "inner game of tennis"...look how much you can save on equipment...and no tennis elbow !! ah...and only two aspects of how mind operates? This by a humble irish(?) author, no less ..."impressive, most impressive" (quote of darth vader) Seems everyone's the expert these days...Superficially speaking that is :P

breath & death
Tue, March 7, 2006 - 7:17 AMif you ever notice the "temper tantrum" of 2 Y.O. kids, at times takes on the "holding" in of the breath...as if to show you they' re in control...most never recover from "terrible two's" and use "holding" as a means of power.....with"holding" love, or money, approval, etc., all just attempts at control...it's about fear (of losing control) or not getting one's way...Far from the ideal of "unconditionality " (which allows you the relaxation to gain real control) wherein you access the "quiet " mind...try a yogic technique of connected breath...in through the nose.. out through the mouth ! never "holding" the inhale or exhale...after about 20 breaths you will gain a significant advantage in releasing internal BONDAGE
